This is a very good point to clarify. Yes, awareness as a 'thought' is infinite regress. But we can see that such awareness is not concurrent with the thought. The thought that 'I am aware of enjoying the chocolate' can only be following (even if instantaneously) but not *during* the very thought/experience of enjoying the chocolate. But there is a silent awareness *during* the experience itself. This cannot be verbalized or thought of. It is the silent presence of being, like a light that is always on. When there is a total stillness with no chatter of thoughts, this is the felt presence as 'I am'. The pure substrate of Consciousness that is free of any content.
